Cala Mendia is a minor holiday resort on the east coast of Mallorca, three kilometers southwest of the more widely known town of Porto Cristo. The distance to the airport in Palma de Mallorca is just over 60 km.
The beach in general
The beautiful beach in Cala Mendia shares its name with the resort. Like many beaches on the east coast, the beach is located inside a bay with cliffs on both sides.
The beach is only 60-70 meters in length, but makes up for it by being more than twice as wide. The entire beach is covered by the finest sand and the water is clear with beautiful shades of turquoise.
There is a large area with sun lounger and parasol rentals. The remaining facilities of this beach include showers, toilets and a large parking lot. In peak season, the beach is monitored by a lifeguard.
There is plenty of room to play in the soft sand. The water is not very shallow, but it is perfectly suitable for children. When the wind comes in from the east, there may be considerable waves and undercurrents.
Water sports activities
There are no water sports activities, but snorkeling in the clear water is gorgeous, especially along the cliffs.
At the back part of the beach, there is a popular restaurant. For several years, it has served many regular guests. The restaurant also serves as a beach bar with ice creams, cold drinks and other refreshments.
Cala Mendia holiday resort
Cala Mendia is a small and quiet holiday resort. The town was developed in the early 90’s and it has a relatively high percentage of private vacation homes. The same is true for the neighboring towns of Cala Anguila and Romantica.
There are a few stores in the area, among them a supermarket and a pharmacy. There is a much greater selection in nearby Porto Cristo, which is easily accessible by taxi or bus. In Porto Cristo you also find Coves del Drac caves, which are one of the greatest tourist attractions in Mallorca.
Cala Mendia map
As you can see on the map, Cala Mendia has largely merged with the neighboring towns of Cala Anguila and Romantica. All three towns have beautiful beaches located in each their bay.
