Calas de Mallorca
Calas de Mallorca is a relatively modern, family-friendly holiday resort on Mallorca’s east coast. It is built around three attractive coves, each with its own sandy beach, and has a fairly large shopping centre.
The atmosphere is peaceful and relaxed, and Calas de Mallorca is particularly well suited to families and couples who want to stay close to the sea with restaurants, shops and bars within easy reach.
Beaches in Calas de Mallorca
The three beaches in Calas de Mallorca are Cala Domingos Gran, Cala Domingos Petit and Cala Antena.
Cala Domingos Gran and Cala Domingos Petit lie side by side in the same bay. They are separated only by a low rocky outcrop that is easy to cross on foot. Cala Antena lies around one kilometre further north.
All three beaches have fine, pale sand and exceptionally clear water in beautiful shades of blue and turquoise. The coves are flanked by cliffs on both sides, and the cliffs around Cala Antena are fairly high. Sun loungers and parasols are available to hire on all three beaches. Cala Domingos Gran is the largest of the three and the only one with Blue Flag status.
Our favourite of the three is Cala Domingos Petit. It is a good size and usually less crowded than Cala Domingos Gran, giving it a slightly more peaceful atmosphere.
Family-friendly beaches
All three beaches are generally family-friendly, although the water is not particularly shallow. Parents with very young children should therefore keep a particularly close eye on them. When children need more space to play, there is usually plenty of room towards the back of each beach.
Water sports
The three coves are good for stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). The clear water also makes for good snorkelling, particularly along the rocky sides of the coves.
Beach bars and restaurants
Each of the three beaches has a beach bar serving cold drinks, sandwiches and other simple dishes when you want a break from the sun and sea. At Cala Domingos Petit, the beach bar is called Coco Beach, while the one at Cala Antena is Inferno.
The resort of Calas de Mallorca
Most of the resort’s shops, restaurants and bars are concentrated in Centro Comercial.
One of our favourite places to eat is the Italian restaurant Made in Italy, which serves good pizzas, as well as delicious croissants in a wide range of flavours. There are several other good restaurants around the resort too, including some outside Centro Comercial.
Hotel Globales America is a very good family hotel, located right by the sea and close to Cala Domingos Gran. The hotel has a lovely pool area with a children’s pool, plenty of activities for children and Wi-Fi throughout. All-inclusive stays are also available.
Vall d’Or golf is around a ten-minute drive from Calas de Mallorca. The beautiful, unspoilt beach at Cala Varques is also nearby, while the impressive Coves del Drach near Porto Cristo are around 16 kilometres away by car.
