El Toro is a small seaport in the south-western part of Mallorca. The town has gradually been joined with the much larger holiday resort Santa Ponsa. The distance to the capital, Palma de Mallorca, is 23 km.
The beach in general
The beach in El Toro is known as Playa El Toro, but its official name is Cala de ses Penyes Roges. The name comes from the beautiful red rocks that surround part of the beach.
The beach is 250 metres long with fine-grained, golden sand, and is nice and spacious, even during the high season. The water is shallow, and the long pier in the harbour protects the beach against waves.
You cannot rent sun lounges or sunshades at Playa El Toro. However, there are showers and toilets at the beach. During the high season, the beach is supervised by a lifeguard.
If you come by car, there is a free parking space right next to the beach.
There is usually plenty of room to play at the beach and the water is shallow.
Water sports activities
There are no water sports activities available at the beach, however, it is possible to rent jet skis, kayaks and boats in the harbour. There are also several diving centres in the town.
The restaurant La Terraza is located right next to the beach. From the roof terrace, there is a lovely view of the beach, the harbour and the bay. In the opposite end of the beach, you will find the Restaurante Playa El Toro.
El Toro holiday resort
El Toro is a small and quiet town with only a few hotels. However, there are quite many holiday apartments, which are occupied by their Spanish, British or German owners many months a year.
Around the harbour and in the street behind the beach/harbour, you will find a selection of cafés and restaurants. There are also a few shops and a supermarket.
El Toro is best known for its harbour Port Adriano. It reopened in 2012 after several years of renovation and is now one of the largest and most modern marinas in Mallorca. During the high season, there are often concerts and other events in the area around the harbour.
