Puerto Pollensa beach
Puerto Pollensa, known as Port de Pollença in Catalan, sits on a beautiful bay in northern Mallorca, with the Tramuntana mountains forming a backdrop to its sandy beaches and marina. Although Port d’Alcúdia is only around 10 km away, Puerto Pollensa has a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere.
The 4-star PortBlue Club Pollentia Resort & Spa lies beside the S’Albufereta nature reserve, between Puerto Pollensa and Port d’Alcúdia. The hotel has a large pool area, plenty of activities and a beach just a few metres away.

Beaches in Puerto Pollensa
Puerto Pollensa’s lovely main beach lies just south of the harbour. It is a long, wide sandy beach with sun loungers and parasols, as well as plenty of room to spread out your own towel. The water stays shallow for quite a way out, and the views across the bay towards the Formentor Peninsula are beautiful.
North of the harbour, a series of smaller sandy beaches runs alongside the seafront promenade. The setting feels more intimate here, with pine trees, villas and small hotels right by the water. The stretch of promenade where the pine trees lean out towards the sea is known as the Pine Walk.
The northern beaches are quite narrow in places, so space can be at a premium in July and August. There are showers and toilets at several points both north and south of the harbour. If you’re coming by car, look for parking near the harbour or, better still, along the road behind the main beach. It’s worth arriving early in high season.

At the beach with children
The shallow water makes Puerto Pollensa a good choice for families with young children. Along several of the northern beaches, children can paddle quite a way out, while the wide beach south of the harbour offers more room to play in the sand. This was our favourite when our children were younger.
The bay is relatively sheltered, but keep an eye on the sea conditions and beach flags. The traffic-free promenade north of the harbour is a lovely place for a stroll with a pushchair or an ice cream to cool down.
Water sports and boat trips
In Puerto Pollensa, you can hire equipment and take lessons in windsurfing and sailing. Kayaks and paddleboards are also available to hire, with paddleboarding a popular choice. On a calm day, a paddle along the coast is a great way to explore the bay. You can also take boat trips from the harbour, with opportunities to swim and snorkel along the way.

Restaurants by the beach
Around the harbour and along the promenade, there are plenty of cafés and restaurants with lovely views over the bay. North of the harbour, several have tables right beside the traffic-free promenade, with beach life just a few steps away. If you’d like to eat here in the evening, we recommend booking a table, especially in July and August.
South of the harbour, there are also plenty of places to eat along the seafront road. Several sell sandwiches, burgers and salads to take away and enjoy on the beach.

The resort of Puerto Pollensa
Puerto Pollensa has a relaxed holiday atmosphere, with small shops, cafés and a harbour full of boats. In the evenings, people gather along the waterfront for a stroll before or after dinner. There’s a pleasant buzz, but the resort is best suited to those who enjoy dinner at a cosy restaurant followed by a drink, rather than lively nightlife.
On Wednesday mornings, a market is held in Plaça de Miquel Capllonch beside the church. Stalls sell fruit, vegetables, clothes and crafts, among other things. It’s a pleasant market, but we prefer the Sunday market in the old town of Pollença inland. Pollença is worth visiting on other days too, with its historic houses, charming square and the Calvario steps – 365 in total, one for each day of the year.
Puerto Pollensa is also a good base for trips to the Formentor Peninsula. You can visit Cala Formentor beach or continue to the lighthouse at Cap de Formentor. Seasonal restrictions apply to private vehicles on parts of the route, so check access arrangements before setting off and consider taking the bus.
