  Cala Major - Mallorca

Cala Major (Cala Mayor) is situated only a few kilometres west of Palma de Mallorca. The resort was very popular in the early years of mass tourism in Mallorca, but then its popularity diminished and it most of all became a residential area. Lately there has been renewed interest in Cala Major and a lot of money has gone into its redevelopment.

The beach in general
The beach of Cala Major is 200 meters long and 80 meters wide. The beach has recently been regenerated with fine sand and is now better and larger than before. The water is crystal clear.

All in all a good beach, although it is surrounded by high hotels as you can tell from the photos. The beach tends to be crowded during July and August, especially on Sundays where the locals themselves visits the beach.

Child friendly
The beach is very suited for children.

Water sports
Only pedal boats.

Beach restaurants
Along the beach promenade you will find a lot of restaurants and bars.

The city behind the beach
Cala Major is a good place to spend the holiday if you want to be close to Palma de Mallorca.

Cala Major is also known for the luxurious Palacio Marivent, the official summer residence of the Spanish royal family, and the art museum Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró (surrealist painter Joan Miró).
