Na Patana beach
Na Patana beach is located in the Bay of Alcúdia on the north coast of Mallorca. A little further west is the holiday resort of Can Picafort, while the smaller town of Son Serra de Marina lies 4 km to the southeast.
The beach is part of the protected Son Real nature reserve, an area of dunes, pine forest, wetlands and marked walking trails. Son Real is also known for several archaeological sites.
Na Patana beach in general
Na Patana is a lovely natural beach, almost 300 metres long and with plenty of space. The beach consists of sand mixed with some small pebbles, and there are areas of low rock formations in the water. At the back of the beach, green vegetation helps give the place a wilder and more untouched feel.
There are no sun loungers, parasols, showers, toilets or beach bar on Na Patana. This is very much part of the experience, as the beach is for visitors who want to discover a more natural side of Mallorca and do not mind being without the comforts of the better-known beaches.
Another major plus is that there are no buildings by the beach. The nearest buildings are by the neighbouring beach of Son Bauló, around 300 metres to the west, but they are not visible from Na Patana. As a result, the beach feels surprisingly remote, even though it only takes a few minutes to walk to Can Picafort.
Child-friendliness
Na Patana is not child-friendly in the classic sense. There are several low rock formations along the waterline, and the water becomes deep quite quickly. On the other hand, there is plenty of space to play and to explore the surrounding nature.
Water sports activities
There are no water sports activities on Na Patana. On calm days, it can be interesting to snorkel by the rocks, but there are definitely better snorkelling beaches on Mallorca.
Beach restaurants
There are no restaurants, cafés or kiosks at Na Patana, so remember to bring plenty of water and something to eat. Alternatively, you can buy food and drinks at the neighbouring beach of Son Bauló in Can Picafort, just a few minutes’ walk away. If you feel like a good lunch, we can highly recommend the restaurant Bananas, which has lovely views of Son Bauló and the Mediterranean Sea.
Holiday resorts and attractions nearby
Can Picafort is the nearest holiday resort. The town has a long beach, many hotels, restaurants, shops and a lively seafront promenade. From the eastern part of Can Picafort, by Son Bauló beach, there is easy access to the more natural stretch of coast around Na Patana and Son Real.
However, the most interesting thing about Na Patana is not only the beach itself, but also the nature and history around it. Around 500 metres from Na Patana lies Necròpolis de Son Real, one of the most fascinating archaeological sites on Mallorca. The burial ground is located right by the sea and consists of ancient stone tombs from prehistoric times. We find it fascinating that the stone structures are 2,600-2,700 years old.
The area around Son Real also offers lovely walks along marked trails through the protected landscape, with dunes, low vegetation, pine forest and views over the Bay of Alcúdia. The most popular walking route leads from Son Bauló to Son Serra de Marina.
